This part of the "Photos App" assignment is called cropping. When there's something in the photo you don't want, you can crop that thing out. Also if something is too big for a box (ex. uploading photos for the yearbook) you can crop unnecessary parts out so it fits in the spot you want it to.
This part of the "Photos App" assignment is called filtering. When there is light in a photo you don't like but you don't want to trash the photo, you can put a filter on it so the color of it looks a little different.
